Axis Studios are expanding and are looking to hire an experienced ASSET TD to develop and support the asset pipeline on a full time or ongoing freelance basis working onsite in Glasgow.

This role requires a skilled technical artist with a broad background solving technical problems as well as designing and implementing new pipeline approaches to all stages of asset creation from modelling to grooming. You’ll be a personable, pro-active, self starter who can get things done and organise a team around you to produce results on schedule. You will be working closely with the Head of Department to improve and develop the pipeline to increase efficiency and produce greater quality in all areas.

Prior experience is a must as is thorough knowledge of all stages of the asset production pipeline. Candidates must be willing and able to work onsite in Glasgow.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investigating, designing and implementing solutions to existing and future pipeline requirements

  • Documenting and supporting these new approaches

  • Developing and supporting the shading pipeline in the studio

  • Developing and supporting fur, feathers and grooming tools for characters and creatures

  • Supporting project teams with any technical problem solving

  • Enter and filter development and support requests in the database

  • Organising a team to develop new approaches for asset pipeline

  • Liaising with RnD team to schedule and manage asset support requests

  • Managing technical challenges on project alongside the CG Supervisor, Leads and Department Heads

  • Working closely with the Department Head to identify process improvements/tools to increase department productivity

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Accomplished examples of pipeline development in a number of areas related to assets

  • An advanced knowledge of shading, lighting, and material response

  • Knowledge of grooming techniques and software, preferably in Houdini

  • Knowledge of modelling, texturing and sculpting packages

  • Knowledge of Python is essential

  • Programming experience is a plus – particularly in shading languages (hlsl, glsl, or node-based shader editors)

  • Knowledge of C++, VEX is desirable

  • Willingness to learn SideFX Houdini workflow

  • Good communication skill and ability to work interactively with production and other departments to solve production challenges

  • Ability to feedback to other departments and direct any technical changes

  • Proven production experience within VFX industry min. 3 years

 

The candidate will ideally be based in the studio on a fixed term basis but we are open to remote working on a freelance basis.
