Commercial Analyst

Axis Studios is Glasgow’s best kept secret and right now we have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Analyst to join our studio, in a new role, designed to support and ensure the companies
continuing growth.

The Commercial Analyst role will provide the opportunity to step beyond the numbers and learn about how we make the fantastic animations that people enjoy, across the world, every day. You will provide essential financial support to functions across the business, including Production, HR, Talent & IT to continually deliver effective cost control and drive performance improvement across these areas.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for gaining a commercial understanding of our business, how it works and what its drivers are. They will also be required to understand our financial processes and how they can relate to business performance. Through excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills the Commercial Analyst will have the opportunity to affect business decisions by influencing management across many areas of
the organisation.

The Commercial Analyst will report to the Finance Controller and can be fully remote or based in our Glasgow studio.



  • Liaise with project producers to assist with their project planning. Be the producer’s point of contact for any of their financial queries.

  • Monitoring the production trackers to ensure in line with the budget, providing commentary for any movements in margin.

  • Maintaining all relevant income and expenditure for each project. This will involve full ownership of revenue and cost of sales including detailed variance analysis to ensure production margin reconciles to the financial system.

  • Analysis and forecasting of day cost rates to ensure bid pricing is set appropriately.

  • Responsible for understanding and reporting project profitability.

  • Assist when required with month end reporting in a timely manner including but not limited to:

    • Monthly management accounts

    • Budget and overhead analysis

    • Assisting with cash management

    • Sales ledger monitoring

  • Other adhoc reporting as required


  • This would suit a part qualified accountant. We can provide professional exam support.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to convincingly state a case with supporting backup.

  • Financial Analysis: Ability to create advanced spreadsheets, explain variances to estimates, identify business risks and opportunities and then make appropriate recommendations. 

  • Forecasting: knowledge of, and ability to apply, financial and forecasting procedures. This includes the ability to develop sound assumptions and produce relevant financial projections and models from those assumptions.

  • Technical Accounting: A familiarity with standard financial accounting methodology. 

  • Independence: Ability to work and think independently. Then confidence to share and persuade management on the validity of the analysis, conclusions and recommendations.

  • Co-ordination: Ability to meet tight deadlines whilst maintaining excellent standards of outputs. 

  • Control Environment: Understanding of internal controls, standards, and processes to ensure accuracy and consistency in data used for decision-making, internal / external reporting and communications.

  • Basic Operating Systems: Knowledge of basic software, operating systems and reporting tools. Advanced excel skills. Axis Studios Group currently use Microsoft Business Central as a financial system and Smartsheet’s 10,000 feet as a resource management tool.
