Compositing Supervisor (VFX)

Axis Studios are looking to hire a Compositing supervisor to join us on a full time basis, to work across a variety of VFX projects in our Bristol based VFX studio. This role can be done remotely but within the UK.

The Compositing Supervisor oversees the compositing team, briefing, motivating, developing, providing constructive feedback and mentoring. Being able to problem solve and develop efficiencies in work-flow will be a big part of the role. Alongside this he/she will be expected to complete and deliver on compositing shots when necessary. 

He/She will work closely with the other supervisors on the show to make sure that the shots are creatively and technically excellent. 


  • Quality controlling output by the team on assigned tasks in line with budget requirements

  • Directly involved with client communication

  • Responsible for compositing dailies - reviewing and signing off shots

  • Supervising the compositing team/comp leads

  • Developing tools, gizmos, methodologies and strategizing for the compositing team approach and execution

  • Managing, supporting and training team members as needed so that they can meet the quality standards required by the production

  • Actively providing creative and technical solutions to overcome production/creative challenges

  • Working closely with 3D department and R&D department to identify process improvements/tools to increase department productivity

  • Working with production management, clients and contractors to provide task breakdown and estimates per project

  • Working with production management to resource and prioritize tasks and help drive the team to meet schedule and budget objectives.

  • Work closely with production to assign shots, plan schedules and advise on artist assignments.



  • Previous experience in a leadership role

  • Excellent communication skills (with immediate team and other departments of the visual effect pipeline)

  • Deep understanding of film VFX processes and pipeline

  • Several years experience in compositing (TV & Film)

  • Expert in Nuke

  • Must have strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously if required
