Axis VFX is seeking an experienced FX Supervisor to join them either remote/onsite at their Bristol studio. 

The FX Supervisor’s role is to manage artists and project pipelines across a variety of realistic, physical and magical set-ups & simulations, driving the team to stay on schedule, and assuring the best possible output quality within the available budget

As well as supervising FX on projects, the FX Supervisor will contribute to the 3D department planning . The FX Supervisor will be mentoring Lead FX Artists and other team members both on creative output as well as planning and approach depending on their needs. Alongside the HOD the FX Supervisor will be involved in the planning of projects at early stages and will help with the set up the team structure and manage the allocation of resources .

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the quality of the FX outputted throughout multiple projects running at one time
  • FX creative control and mentorship should be provided by this role on all live projects assigned, including giving feedback to each individual artist on the teams, providing support and references to help drive the FX to a higher standard.
  • Support the HOD, Executive Producers and Producers in planning of projects as early as pitching stage.
  • Provide project planning support to other Lead FX Artists on multiple projects. Helping plan for the best quality FX with-in the budget, time and resources available.
  • The ability to maintain a FX-Lead capacity on one of the live projects. When necessary, to have the ability to step in and operate as a FX Technical Director
  • Taking an active role alongside HOD in developing the department. That includes advising and supporting decisions regarding project team structure and resource allocation.
  • For projects being supervised by the FX Supervisor that doesn’t have a FX Lead Artist attached or if a Lead needs support. The FX Supervisor is responsible to communicate with production, other department leads etc, to determine best creative approaches between departments in order to achieve the director’s vision with a high creative standard.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Accomplished examples of pipeline development in a number of areas related to Houdini FX, CFX and Lighting
  • An advanced knowledge of FX and CFX simulation workflow
  • Knowledge of lighting, shading techniques and software, preferably in Houdini
  • Advanced knowledge of houdini VEX is required and Python knowledge is essential
  • Experience in Houdini PDG and Solaris/USD workflow is a plus 
  • Good communication skill and ability to work interactively with production and other departments to solve production challenges
  • Ability to feedback to other departments and direct any technical changes
  • Proven production experience within VFX industry min. 5 years
