Axis Studios have an exciting opportunity for an IT Desktop Support Assistant to join us on-site here in our Glasgow Studio!

The primary duty of the IT Desktop Support Assistant is to provide desktop support for our Glasgow studio and remote users. The role requires skills across Windows and Linux OS, VFX and animation centric applications, device management and hardware and software configuration.

Ensuring that desktop hardware and software are functioning as required, enabling the teams to work effectively and efficiently, is essential.

Attention to detail, cordial demeanour and commitment to proper documentation of job functions and issue resolutions are required attributes of an IT Desktop Support Assistant.

The IT Desktop Support Assistant is under the line management of the Head of IT in Glasgow and servicing stakeholders across the Glasgow studio. 

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Address user tickets regarding hardware, software and networking issues.

  • Asking targeted questions to diagnose problems.

  • Conducting remote troubleshooting.

  • Moving workstations, monitors and other IT equipment around the studio.

  • Assisting in ongoing systems configuration maintenance and development of desktop systems.

  • Setting up new user accounts and the decommissioning of old user accounts. 

  • Directing unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel.

  • Helping create technical documentation and manuals.

  • Out-of-hours remote technical cover at times of peak activity.

 

An effective IT Desktop Support Assistant will:

  • Demonstrate good problem-solving abilities and sound judgement in relation to general IT support tasks. 

  • Display sound technical knowledge of IT infrastructure.

  • Showcase excellent communication skills in a fast paced user-facing technical environment.

  • Understand the challenging nature of the animation/VFX industry and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

  • Adapt, analyse and with a goal-oriented mindset display confidence to resolve multiple mission-critical tasks.

  • Have competency with Windows operating systems, Linux and TCP/IP networking. 

  • Have familiarity with Windows DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.

  • Have experience in Microsoft/RHEL/Cisco administration, scripting and AV systems.
